Get crafty this Christmas!

Christmas is undoubtedly an expensive time of year, but there is a way to save cash and the hassle of trekking around the shops – by making your own gifts! You need not be an expert crafter to produce small gifts that your friends and family will cherish, especially because they know you put the thought and effort into making it for them! To inspire you, we have come up with our list of easy makes that will wow and delight your loved ones. Check them out…

For her

Whether it is your mum-in-law, a colleague or a dear friend, our homemade gift ideas will make her day!

A hamper – get an attractive box or basket and pack with shredded paper, next fill it with things she will like; shower gel, candles, chocolates etc. Hit pound stores and discount shops for the branded items she uses.

Homemade soap and bath bombs – easy to make (you can get instructions off the internet), present them in a box with tissue paper and tied with ribbon for the boutique look.

A photo album – thanks to digital cameras few of us actually print off our photos; scour her social media posts and your own camera and collect a few favourite images, you could collate them in to an album for her or put them in a frame.

For him

Finding just the right gift for the man in your life can often be hard work, save yourself the hassle by treating him to one of these…

Chutney – grab a recipe off the internet and make him delicious chutney to enjoy on Christmas day, don’t forget to decorate the jar with ribbon and add a box of crackers to complete the gift.

Grown-up hot chocolate – using an icing bag, fill with a generous heap of hot chocolate powder and top with mini marshmallows, tie with string or ribbon and then add on a miniature of his favourite booze (Baileys works well!)

Handprint tree – if you have little ones get them to do hand prints in a tree shape (you will need to add the trunk), add a sentiment and frame it for his office wall.

For the little ones

Show kids there is more to Christmas than the latest toy by making them something they will treasure for years to come.

Felt finger puppets – cheap to make, your little one will have plenty of fun with these, especially if you make up a story to go with them! (Be careful of adding small parts if your children are very young).

Snow globe– using an old jar, some plastic figures, water and glitter you can make an enchanting scene that will look great on display in their room.

Superhero cape and mask – requiring minimal sewing skills you could make your mini-hero a cape and matching mask!

For the teens

Often fussy and hard to please, getting the right gift for teenagers is never easy, this Christmas watch them smile as they unwrap something you have lovingly made.

A sweetie hamper - choose a decorative box (you could always decorate a plain box with images you know they will like) and fill with sweets and chocolate!

Friendship bracelets – there are plenty of designs to choose from and you could even get ambitious by adding embellishments!

Cool wall art – add some serious style to their bedroom with cool, original artwork. Simply get a cheap canvas frame and cover it with a cool t-shirt!
