What a Summer 2013 was; a prolonged heat wave, a British player winning Wimbledon and a Royal baby! And as most of the UK basked in temperatures regularly hitting above 30◦c, the fashion forecast looked good too!
Hot weather sees us all head for a much more pared down look, fitted trousers and blouses make way for shorts, t-shirts or playsuits. In terms of footwear obviously big boots are out and this year so were ballerinas and platform heels! Yes, this Summer the one thing on a Shoe Zone customer’s feet was canvas! Nudging the ever-popular ballerina style out of top spot, the canvas shoe was a big hit in Summer 2013, mainly due to its versatility and great value pricing. Worn with a dress, skinny jeans or shorts, the canvas shoe goes with everything and the Shoe Zone range included plimsoll, espadrille and slip on styles. With an unbelievable selection of colours and designs available, beach babes everywhere were able to stock up and look great all summer long.
For the Shoe Zone buying team, who plan seasonal lines up to nine months before they hit the shops, the surprise hit of the Summer was the fab range of low-heeled sandals. Low heels have been championed by designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger and Armani, and while the team knew the styles were great, they didn’t know whether shoppers would choose low heels over the ever-popular wedge. They did, with the Lilley Gold Woven Toe Post sandal in particular being loved by customers! With its metallic finish and woven detailing, the sandal was bang on trend and you can expect to see this style influence the looks for Summer 2014!
With Summer now feeling like a distant memory and Autumn and Winter stock beginning to hit Shoe Zone stores, the buying team are already planning Summer 2014 lines. The team look for inspiration amongst the catwalks of London, New York and Paris fashion weeks, where Spring/ Summer 2014 looks were recently showcased and predict which of the looks will make it on to the High Street. The buying team work with manufacturers from around the world to deliver the latest looks at the best prices, always ensuring Shoe Zone’s high standards of quality and sustainable sourcing are adhered to.
So, what is the outlook for next year? Well, while we can’t guarantee another bumper year of summer sunshine, you can expect the Shoe Zone range to echo the latest fashions and with a colour palette for spring/summer 2014 predicted to be fresh shades and zingy colours, you can probably expect pastel pumps and ballerinas with pops of colour to feature in stores next year!
