We were served by a lady called Dawn at approximately the time of 9.00-9.30 am on Tuesday 30th June 2015. That particular member of staff was at alone at the till at that moment of time. She was incredibly rude and moody. Me and my mum went to the till to purchase 4 items of footwear. We had been trying to find a size 8 in " men's charcoal grey slippers" however wasn't successful hence took a size 7 instead. Once at the till we asked if they had some more sizes as we were looking for a size 8 but couldn't find one. Accidently not knowing; we had dropped a pair of the slippers on the floor as they were located on the rack lowest to the floor. The lady took a look; very harshly stated " well you've dropped them all over the floor" and went to have a look for a size 8. She managed to find it which I don't know how we had missed as we had searched for it for a while however I agree it was a human error made by ourselves. She then returned with the size 8 pair of shoes again rudely stating " they were right there", we didn't react as we agreed maybe it was our fault for not looking thoroughly and not realising we had accidentally dropped a pair on the floor; but surely as a member a staff they must deal with such issues on a daily basis which includes helping customers who attend their store. She then added up all the money on the till and stated the total. I then asked her if they do NUS discounts and presented my card to her as I am a law student at the university of Huddersfield. She again reacted very rudely stating " you're supposed to show me that before and then had a look a brief look at the card". After making the payment she just handed the receipt to my mum, left the bags on the till and turned to the customer behind us In order to serve her. I found her behaviour overall incredibly rude as despite us apologising for dropping the pair of slippers on the floor and also presenting my NUS card late however she still continued to treat us in an incredibly disrespectful manner. As Asian Pakistani citizens ourselves and regular customers at that store, we were greatly offended by such behaviour that we had never experienced before. I don't want to state that we were treated like that simply due to our ethnicity or colour of our skin without being 100% sure but I do know that no other member of staff; whether it was at that shoe zone store of at any other shops, has ever treated us like that before. We reached home and looked at the receipt at which it came to our attention that the discount had only applied to one pair of shoes as only £1.30 was reduced from an original total of just over £40. I commonly use my NUS discount card at various other stores, including previously used at this shoe zone store but have never have to show my card of ask for a discount before all the items are scanned and the discount has always been 10% of the total amount. Once returning home at approximately 9.45 am the same day we rang the local number asking for the manager. We believe it was the same lady who first asked why we wanted to speak to her and whether we knew her, and then told us that she was busy at that moment in time and for us to ring back. I was overall appalled by the way we were treated. We still also have proof of the receipt which includes the time and person we were served and the amount of NUS discount we revieved.
