The History of Mother’s Day
Contrary to popular belief Mother’s Day is in fact a fairly modern celebration that originated in the United States in the early 20th century. It was first celebrated in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother, a peace activist who cared for the injured in the civil war, after much campaigning it was finally recognised as a national celebration in 1911. By early 1920 it was becoming more commercialised with card and gift companies making and selling items to help commemorate it. It was around this time other countries around the world adopted the celebration and the rest as they say is history.
Ways Of Celebrating Mother’s Day
There are so many different ways to spoil your mum but why not do something a little bit different and memorable this year and treat her to a day out.
