Take a sneak peek behind the scenes at Shoe Zone HQ for a little insight into day-to-day life from loads of departments, from buying to marketing to finance to customer services and everything in between. Take a look at all of our top tips and advice for working in these departments, you may even get some pizza topping inspiration too…
How long have you been a member of the Shoe Zone team?
2 and a half years.
What does your job role involve?
I buy shoes for the online exclusive range covering all departments (e.g. men’s, womens, kids etc.).
How did you get into this career?
I started in store marketing at Shoe Zone and then applied for the trainee buyer role – I’d always wanted to be a buyer so it was ideal!
What is your favourite thing to do in your job?
I really like the beginning of the buy for the next season. You can start afresh and decide how your range is going to look; meet suppliers and see new development/product; travel around and get out of the office.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to go into your career?
Take as many opportunities presented to you as possible. Even if you think you don’t have the right experience, if you have a passion for the job and are willing to work for it, then go for it.
Now, onto the serious topics: what’s your go-to pizza topping?
Mozzarella, mushrooms, peppers and olives aka the Ortalana Pizza at Peter’s Pizzeria in Leicester.
What’s the last thing you watched that you really enjoyed?
The Serpent on TV (OMG so good, a must watch)
And finally, what’s been your highlight of working at Shoe Zone so far?
When I found out I’d got the buying job that was pretty exciting but the main highlight is probably the friends I’ve made here since joining.
