Trends change throughout the years and the shoe trends in 2019 are going to be slightly different to those of 2018. The new year generally brings about change and improvements, with many people having the ‘out with the old, in with the new’ mentality, and a lot of people clear out their wardrobes and shoe racks to make space for their new on-trend purchases.
In 2018, we saw the classic-retro trends of animal print and block heels make a comeback, but for 2019, footwear trends seem to be going in the opposite direction! Colour schemes are changing from extremely loud and colourful to light pastels, with lavender and cobalt blue making a return, and we’ll also see a lot more of a dainty shoe in our top shoe trends in 2019, with thin, tinted PVC and transparent lucite heels.
One of the big trends for 2019 is boots, ankle boots to be exact. It seems we’re quite partial to the ankle boot, and those in the know indicate that they’ll be a firm favourite throughout the year, not just in the colder months. Closely followed by the boot is the trainer. It seems comfort and convenience are going to be a massive purchase-influencer in trainer trends for 2019, with minimalism being a key feature, particularly in men’s shoes, and we’re all for it!
Let’s take a closer look at the top shoe trends in 2019.
Women’s Shoe Trends for 2019
Women’s shoe trends seem to be taking a different turn in 2019, with the heels getting lower and trainers getting higher and more, dare we say, “dad”. Dad trainers are making a comeback this year with many opting for a more retro finish to their outfits. As well as being practical and durable, the dad trainer sure is a fashion statement if you dare to rock it!
Shoe trends for autumn 2019 will consist of autumnal colours, with rich oranges and vibrant reds making a comeback, and with many designs turning to practicality, expect to see a fair amount of builder-style boots and yet more “dad” trainers.
Wellies will be on the rise for shoe trends in winter along with ankle boots and knee-highs!
For the shoe trends in autumn/winter of 2019, it seems animal print will be back in again, with many top brands providing heeled snake- and alligator-printed boots, and, for those of you who prefer something a little less in-your-face, the cowboy boots of 2018 are holding their own and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Logos are also making a more prominent appearance in 2019. Although many of the logos will be for prestige brands, you’ll see a lot of the smaller shoe manufacturers following suit and opting for more subtle designs with added logos instead of the current, in-your-face designs that we saw appear in 2018.
Women’s Shoe Trends for Spring & Summer 2019
Leading into the warmer months we’re expecting to find a fair few varieties of chunkier sandals as opposed to the dainty flip flops that we saw in 2018. Women’s shoe trends for spring 2019 are looking to be super comfortable, with the edition of these durable and practical sandals.
Also amid the shoe trends for summer 2019 we’re seeing a lot of quirky and architectural shoes appear, mainly in the form of heels. You’ll find a lot of shorter heels more readily available with the designs of the shoes being heavily-focused on the heels themselves and not the main body of the shoe. Heels are going to start appearing in many different shapes, such as circles, blocks and waves, with the heel having a lot of architectural focus. This is something that we’re so excited to start seeing more of!
PVC shoes, although they crept into fashion at the end of 2018, will be much more of a staple in the coming year, and these won’t just be in the form of heels. We’re expecting to see flip flops, sandals and boots, all primarily made from PVC with the jelly shoe being found more readily available as we approach the warmer months.
To sum up women’s shoes in summer 2019, we’re going to find footwear built for sophistication, durability and comfort – all things we pride ourselves on in our shoes!
Men’s Shoe Trends for 2019
Men’s shoe style in 2019 is also following suit with women’s in that we’ll be heading back in time with more retro and simplistic designs.
We’ll be seeing a lot of sage-coloured clothes creeping into spring this year and the perfect footwear to match this colour is the plain white trainer – you’ll be seeing a lot of white trendy men’s shoes in 2019! It seems white is becoming the ultimate summery colour this year, and, with its simplicity, we’re sure you’ll get a lot of use out of your white shoes by pairing them with near enough every outfit!
Whether it’s a trainer, plimsoll or sandal, we guarantee the majority that you find this year will be white, however we’re also going to be seeing a lot of deep grey, too!
For 2019, men’s trainers are going quite retro, with a lot of well-known sports brands bringing back their classic styles from the 80’s and 90’s. In the trainer department, you’ll not only see the simple white and grey but there will be some quite colourful trainers making an appearance, too.
Similarly to the women’s trends for 2019, the gentlemen will also find a lot more of a bulkier sandal when we head into the summer months. With large platforms and thicker straps, the theme for men’s sandals this summer is durability and comfort.
The trends may be changing, but for 2019, our focus is, as ever, on providing you with fashionable and well-made shoes. We’re really excited to see what this year has in store for footwear, are you?
