We’ve been having some terrible weather recently, but it looks like things might finally be on the up and spring is in sight!
One of the biggest things we have to look forward to as the nicer weather approaches is buying new shoes. We all love it, right?
Unicorns, rainbows and whimsical dreamscapes are where it’s at right now and the spring and summer of 2018 is going to be a real throwback to the hazy days of 90s style, with a dash of Harajuku charm for good measure. Candy floss colours, dreamy glitter and metallics, plus delicious bohemian beadwork, will all be making a big comeback this year.
Texture is also going to be a big deal, whether that’s a lush pair of embroidered mules, diamante slingbacks, or faux fur sliders, there will certainly be a touch of nostalgia that you’ll want to get your teeth into (or feet!).
Women’s Footwear Styles for Spring/Summer 2018
Each year we see different styles of shoe popularised, and fashion has a tendency to be quite cyclical. Due to this, we’ll be seeing some old favourites that we think should be considered summer wardrobe staples:
When it comes to comfort, there should be no compromise, and canvas shoes will offer everything you need in this area while looking super stylish too. Canvas shoes are perfect for the warmer months as the natural material allows your feet to breathe, unlike other materials. This and the fact cotton has excellent moisture-wicking qualities make them the idea choice on a hot day. This year canvas shoes should be a solid foundation for any casual look you fancy; bright metallic colours and sparkly glitter pastels will change up any outfit with minimal effort. Pair them with cropped jeans or shorts and a colourful tee for a playful yet relaxed vibe.
An iconic style that’s been popular for decades, 2018 will see a resurgence, particularly with the flat mule, due in no small part to it gracing many a catwalk in the past few weeks. Mules with embellishments will be a big hit this year too, whether that’s pom poms, bows or chain detailing, they’re versatile and super easy to wear! Mules look great with skinny jeans – go for a high-waisted, acid wash pair for the ultimate 90s look.
We really can’t talk about summer footwear without mentioning ladies’ sandals; everyone should own at least one pair (we recommend many more!). As with canvas shoes, sandals in bright, metallic colours and glittery pastels will be the perfect way to jazz up your outfit this summer. Low block heels and toe post sandals will be all the rage too, with wedge heels and espadrille styles the perfect choice of footwear for your beach holiday.
We’ve just mentioned wedge-heeled sandals and we’re pretty confident wedges will never be out style! The 90s did however see a massive revival of wedge shoes, and, thanks to the meteoric rise of the Spice Girls and the Girl Power movement, what better way to make you feel powerful than a luscious pair of wedges or a stomping pair of flatforms?
Like sandals, your summer wardrobe should also have many pairs of ballet shoes (as far as we’re concerned anyway)! If you’re looking for the ultimate in versatility then ballerina-style flat shoes are your answer. They can be paired with pretty much anything from dresses to shorts to jeans. They’re great for the office too if you wanted to wear something light, without exposing your feet. This year, geometric prints such as stripes and polka dots will be a big deal, as will metallics and textures such as sequins and faux fur.

Top Men’s Footwear for Spring/Summer 2018
Just like women, men like to stay on top of fashion trends too and footwear is no exception. In 2018, men’s footwear is all about neutrals and classic styles.
Much like the name suggests, desert boots are perfect for hot weather when you want something that can be dressed up or down. They’re lightweight, often made of natural materials such as suede or canvas, and, due to the fact they’re usually light in colour (sand is most popular, funnily enough), they deflect heat allowing the feet to breathe. Perfect for a summer’s evening stroll or just a casual trip around the shops.
The yuppie is back! Thanks to TV shows such as Made In Chelsea, a good pair of boat shoes will not only serve you well, they’ll look super stylish and will keep your feet fresh even on the hottest of days. Team them with a pair of chino shorts and a nice shirt for a smart yet comfortable look. Why not throw on a bow tie and release your inner hipster!
There are men’s trainers, then there are lightweight men’s trainers. They’ve become extremely popular in recent years and are set to be bigger than ever in 2018. They offer the perfect balance of lightweight, breathable upper and comfortable foam soles, eliminating any extraneous bulk. Choose a neutral colour such as grey or white for maximum versatility.
If you’re looking for classic style without the fuss, then men’s loafers are where it’s at! Perfect with skinny jeans, they’re also a great choice if you’re going to a summer wedding and want something smart that won’t complicate your outfit. Neutral colours such as tan and chestnut are perfect for summer 2018.
The ultimate chill-out shoes, nothing shouts summertime more than espadrilles. Comfy, breathable and practical, they’re the perfect companion for a light-coloured linen suit and a cool rum cocktail. If you don’t fancy a linen suit, skinny jeans or a pair of tailored shorts will let you channel your Californian swagger in no time!
