Take a sneak peek behind the scenes at Shoe Zone HQ for a little insight into day-to-day life from loads of departments, from buying to marketing to finance to customer services and everything in between. Take a look at all of our top tips and advice for working in these departments, you may even get some pizza topping inspiration too…
How long have you been a member of the Shoe Zone team?
1 year and 8 months.
What does your job role involve?
I wear many hats, including UX design, managing the Shoe Zone affiliate program and being the postman from time to time.
UX hat – I research and design new pages, features and functions on ShoeZone.com. The first project I completed was the product page, so a fairly big task when I started!
Affiliate hat – This involves building relationships with affiliate partners, including cashback, CSS, and discount partners. If you’ve ever clicked on a link on a website or social media post for a product and sent through to a retailer’s website, you’ve most likely used an affiliate!
Postman hat – No, I don’t wear a hat for this, haha. When required I man the post room, franking post, collecting deliveries and returns.
How did you get into this career?
I studied marketing at university, but it wasn’t until afterwards that I discovered the realm of UX. I saw the role come up, and saw the word ‘UX’ and jumped at it!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to go into your career?
Try out lots of different jobs, see what you’re good at and enjoy. Be faithful in the small tasks, use well what you are given, and even more will be given.
Now, onto the serious topics: what’s your go-to pizza topping?
Usually I go for plain cheese, but if I’m feeling adventurous I’ll go for sausage.
What’s the last thing you watched that you really enjoyed?
The Chosen – a crowd funded TV series that depicts the life of Jesus during his ministry. It’s truly incredible and the best series I’ve seen.
And finally, what’s been your highlight of working at Shoe Zone so far?
Making big progress in the affiliate program and seeing my designs of the product page go live on the site.
Look out for more interviews with our team in the weeks to come!
