Launceston Castle, built in 1070 by Robert Count of Mortain the brother of William the Conqueror, has a colourful history. Its most famous prisoner was George Fox founder of the Quakers who was held there in 1656. Today it holds an exhibition tracing 1,000 years of the castle’s history.

The annual Castle Rock music festival is held in July in the lower grounds of the castle including a vibrant mix of local bands.

Launceston Steam Railway, a narrow-gauge heritage railway, runs as a tourist attraction during the summer months.

The indoor Friday Market at St Marys Hall sells locally produced food, plants and crafts.

Found the shoe I wanted, but not the size. Asked the very helpful male (didn't get his name) assistant, who was absolutely brilliant. He said he could order online, but then realised had just had a delivery of a lot of boxes. He looked on his computer and saw that three pairs had come in. But as he said they could be anywhere, but he would have a quick loo. It wasn't long before he came back with the shoes. He was very friendly and helpful.
