Take a sneak peek behind the scenes at Shoe Zone HQ for a little insight into day-to-day life from loads of departments, from buying to marketing to finance to customer services and everything in between. Take a look at all of our top tips and advice for working in these departments, you may even get some pizza topping inspiration too…
How long have you been a member of the Shoe Zone team?
I joined just over 7 months ago.
What does your job role involve?
Photographing and retouching website product imagery and digital marketing images, as well as Seasonal Store Posters.
How did you get into this career?
I first developed an interest in photography through my love of travel, and never wanting to put my camera down! When I was 19 I moved to Australia and it was here that I decided to study for a Professional Diploma in Photography. Upon completion of my Diploma, myself and my camera travelled to many places around the world for nine years. I’ve been lucky enough to have had many amazing opportunities such as working as an underwater Photographer in the Cayman Islands (dream job!). Now, my photography experience and knowledge branches right from landscapes to wildlife to weddings and everything in-between!
What is your favourite thing to do in your job?
I absolutely love envisioning an idea in my head and bringing it to life through my camera! Not only do I enjoy this creative side of photography but I also love to see people’s reactions to my images upon completion – If they’re happy, I’m happy!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to go into your career?
Anyone wanting to get into photography, I would suggest to get as much practice as you can! Practice makes perfect as they say and the more you have your camera in hand, the more you will learn as you go! Focus on what you love to photograph most, as where your passion lies, you will get the best results! Secondly, it is very common for people to stray away from photography as it can be expensive, but it’s not all about the gear, you also have to have an idea of what you are doing! Just because you have the newest camera, it doesn’t mean you’ll take the best photographs.
Now, onto the serious topics: what’s your go-to pizza topping?
Sweetcorn is a must.
What’s the last thing you watched that you really enjoyed?
Bridgerton – I love watching anything set in that era!
And finally, what’s been your highlight of working at Shoe Zone so far?
The highlight for me so far has to be the knowledge I have developed in Product Photography and learning the ins and outs of working for a large retail company. Also, joining a great team of colleagues.
